Established in 1992, and presented by the City of Darebin, the Darebin Art Show (DAS) is a biennial exhibition of contemporary visual arts and crafts celebrating the depth and talent of Darebin’s artistic community.
The Darebin Art Show is designed to encourage the broadest possible participation; there is no pre-selection process or entry fee . This affords artists practising in the many and varied areas of contemporary art an opportunity to exhibit their work.
The Darebin Art Show is acquisitive and the City of Darebin supports creativity and diversity in contemporary visual art practices by acquiring works to the value of $3,000 as well as sponsoring the $500 People’s Choice Award.
The Darebin Art Show is open to all artists who live, work or learn within the boundaries of the municipality. Entry forms for the next prize will be available to download in March 2010.

Prize Winner, Gumbri: White Dove, 2008
Celebrating the work of Victorian Indigenous artists, Gumbri: White Dove is a biennial contemporary art prize presented by the City of Darebin in conjunction with the Darebin Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Council (DATSICC).
Showcasing the spectrum of indigenous art and culture that is created in urban and regional environments, the City of Darebin acquires works for its art collection through the Gumbri: White Dove Award ($3,500) and the DATSICC Award for best emerging artist ($2,000) as well as sponsoring the $500 People’s Choice Award.
Gumbri: White Dove is open to Victorian Artists who identify as Indigenous. Application forms for the next prize will be available to download in March 2010.
DLAP – CITY OF DAREBIN & LA TROBE UNIVERSITY ART PRIZE
Presented by the City of Darebin and La Trobe University, DLAP is a biennial event dedicated to promoting excellence and innovation in contemporary visual arts practices across Victoria.
DLAP showcases the work of emerging and established artists, providing a public platform for the interpretation of the values, aspirations, diversity and vibrancy of our society and extends an opportunity for the wider community to enhance their cultural experience of the visual arts.
The City of Darebin and La Trobe University are committed to fostering an on-going appreciation of Australian contemporary art through their co-sponsorship of the ‘Best Work On Show’ prize of $10,000, ‘Best Emerging Artist’ prize of $3,000 and the $500 People’s Choice Award.
DLAP is open to all Victorian contemporary artists. Application forms for the next prize will be available to download in March 2011.
