City of Darebin Art and History Collection
Darebin Council acknowledges the importance of the City’s cultural heritage and maintains a substantial collection of contemporary artworks and historical items that reflect the artistic, social and political aspirations of the local community.
The role of the City of Darebin Art and History Collection is to inspire, inform, engage and connect the community in an appreciation of the visual arts and to support local artists in their endeavours to contribute to a vibrant municipal culture.
Artworks are acquired for the collection following Darebin Council’s Arts, Culture and Heritage policy guidelines. The collection comprises contemporary visual arts including: paintings, works on paper, photographs, ceramics, textiles, sculpture; urban and public art; historical documents and heritage artefacts.
Artists represented in the collection include: Eolo Paul Bottaro, Turbo Brown, Ju Yuen Chew, Phyllis Faldon, Sarah Faulkner, Aunty Gwen Garoni, Jennifer Goodman, Mary Hammond, Phil Harris, Katherine Hattam, Siri Hayes, Amanda Johnson, Warren Lane, Adam Nudelman, Charlie O, Ken Senior, John Sheehan, Vipoo Srivilasa, Nick Stella, Peter Waples Crowe and Sharon West.
The collection is displayed around Darebin in a variety of facilities including Bundoora Homestead Art Centre, Preston and Northcote Town Halls, Darebin Arts and Entertainment Centre, Bundoora Park, Darebin libraries, customer service centres, civic and leisure centres while public artworks are displayed in the streets and parks throughout the municipality.
